Culture Assessment

Culture manifests itself in behaviours, what people do when faced with a decision or response requirement.

There are examples of organisations working on ‘culture’ for years with few tangible results. Stand-alone culture initiatives generate some interesting activities, but they are seldom long-lasting if they are not part of an integrated approach.

Culture change is not separate from other change programs in an organisation, rather it is a grouping of existing initiatives which are integrated and sponsored for cultural effect. Cultural improvement is one of the by-products of business process management and other programs. Establishing which initiatives are important for cultural improvement starts with a culture assessment.

A culture assessment establishes the current ethos of the organisation, or, as is more common but seldom recognised, the multiple camps with different cultures within the organisation.
